2017 Mercedes E-Class US Launch Delayed

The redesigned 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has hit a regulatory snag that is going to push back its availability. 

The new E300 model was supposed to be on sale by June, but Mercedes is still waiting on permission to sell the car from U.S. regulators. “We’re pushing and working very hard with the authorities to get certification. The cars are on U.S. soil,” Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Dietmar Exler told Automotive News.

It isn’t clear whether it is the Environmental Protection Agency, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) or both that are holding up the launch of these vehicles. Mercedes now expects to launch to the new E-Class at the end of July.

Since the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal, regulators in the U.S. have been taking longer to certify new models, in some cases tripling the length of time.
