Jeep Compass, Patriot Production to End in December 2016

Jeep will continue to build the small Compass and Patriot models until the end of 2016, which means they will be sold at 2017 model year vehicles.

The two small Jeep models will be replaced by a single model which will be built in Mexico starting in late January of 2017 according to Automotive News. The current Compass and Patriot will continue to be built in Belvidere, Ill. until Dec. 23 of this year.

The new model will slot in between the Renegade and the Cherokee, though it will be built on a widened and stretched version of the Renegade platform. A turbocharged four-cylinder mated to a nine-speed automatic is likely to provide motivation for the new model, which remains without a name.

Production at the Belvidere plant will pick back up in May of 2017 with the assembly of the Cherokee, making space for the Toledo, Ohio plant to build the entire Wrangler family.
