Former Top Gear Presenter Chris Evans Under Investigation in Sexual Assault Case

The news with Top Gear‘s former presenter Chris Evans keeps getting worse.

Now that it has been announced Evans is leaving the show, The Telegraph reports that the Metropolitan Police is investigating an allegation of sexual assault. A woman is claiming that Evans exposed himself to her and groped her in the 1990s. Evans has denied the claims.

The allegation stems from a former co-worker of Evans from when he hosted Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast between 1992 and 1994. Since the woman came forward, a group of Evans’ former colleagues have been posting publicly on Facebook that he would frequently expose himself and bullied the staff on Channel 4.

There is even an interview with the Sunday Times in 2005 where Evans was quoted as saying: “If you get your willy out, it’s the funniest thing in the world. Everybody laughs, everyone of our generation. I wouldn’t do it in front of my mum, for example. Girls love it; boys – ‘Oh I can’t believe you did that.’ It also takes the night to a new level. I actually haven’t done it for a while. But I will do it again.”

As for Top Gear series 24, the show will move on without Evans and the BBC currently has no plans to replace the former presenter. That means Matt LeBlanc will likely take the role of lead presenter and will be joined by Sabine Schmitz, Chris Harris, Eddie Jordan and Rory Reid.
