1964.5 Ford Mustang Gets a Life-Size LEGO Replica

This might be one of the best automotive-related LEGO creations yet.

Built from 200,000 LEGO pieces, LEGOLAND Florida has created a life-sized replica of a 1964.5 Ford Mustang V8 coupe. The project consists of 194,900 standard LEGO bricks and DUPLO bricks, measuring more than 15 feet long, nearly 6 feet wide and over 4 feet tall. It tips the scales at 1,712 pounds, of which 960 lb are LEGO bricks and 752 lb is its flat, aluminum chassis.

LEGOLAND Florida even has a few surprises under the hood, including a virtual horn and the sounds of a real Mustang engine, which is a first for a life-size LEGO vehicle. There are also working headlights and tail lights on the creation.

The project first debuted at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and now has a permanent display outside the Ford Driving School attraction at LEGOLAND Florida Resort and will replace the life-size Ford Explorer that has impressed guests since October, 2011. The company said that the Explorer will be refurbished before being installed at a new location to be announced later.
