Jeep Sales Growth Finally Cools Down
Jeep has logged its first monthly year-over-year decline since September 2013.
As one of the few brands that have been enjoying success in FCA’s portfolio, Jeep’s sales declined as more automakers are entering the crossover and SUV segment. Last month, the American automaker saw a 2.7-percent decline in sales with only two models posting gains: the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Patriot. The Grand Cherokee saw its sales go up 18 percent, while the Patriot climbed 33 percent as its production gets ready to end.
Other models in Jeep’s lineup weren’t so fortunate, with the Renegade seeing a 13-percent drop and the Cherokee falling 12 percent. The Compass fell 16 percent while the Wrangler declined 18 percent.

The decline suggests that competitor’s crossover and SUV offerings are getting more appealing, considering other subcompact crossovers like the Subaru Crosstrek, Honda HR-V, Chevrolet Trax and Mazda CX-3 all saw double-digit growth. Meanwhile, the Toyota 4Runner, which competes in the midsize SUV segment, saw a 21-percent growth in sales.
Most recently, Jeep debuted the all-new Compass in celebration of the start of production at the company’s new Brazilian assembly plant.
