Someone Accidentally Stole a Car and Returned it with Gas Money

A Subaru was stolen right from someone’s driveway, but this typically sad story actually has a happy ending.

A woman in Portland, Oregon, shared a story on Facebook about how her red Subaru Impreza was stolen from her driveway. The catch is that the car was returned later with an apology note and gas money. The owner, Erin Hatzi, told The Oregonian her husband noticed the car was missing Tuesday night, at which point she uploaded security camera images of the then-supposed theft, hoping that someone could help her find the car on the social media.

It turns out, the car was taken by accident.

It appears that some older Subaru keys are actually interchangeable, and one person was asked to to pick up a different red Subaru in Hatzi’s neighborhood. When that vehicle owner realized that the wrong car was taken, they returned it back to Hatzi’s driveway along with a note and $30 in gas money.
