Mercedes Recalls New E-Class Models for Stalling Issue

Mercedes-Benz is recalling some new E-Class models to address a wiring problem that can lead to engine stalls.

A total of 6,858 E300 and E300 4Matic models from the 2017 model year are affected in the U.S., according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The affected cars were built between December 10, 2015, and June 30, 2016. The cars have a wiring harness mounted under the rear seat benches that can cause problems if passengers put too much pressure on the rear seat bench.

“In the affected vehicles, the rear bench seat frame may contact and damage the wiring harness for the fuel pump, fuel tank pressure sensor or fuel level gauge,” NHTSA says on its website. “Damage to the fuel pump wiring may result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Affected owners have been contacted by Mercedes and dealers will modify the routing of the wiring harness free of charge.
