Lotus Has Created a Track-Only Version of its Fastest Exige Ever
Lotus been on a tear lately, releasing new model after new model.
The latest introduction is the Exige Race 380, a track-only version of the recently announced Exige Sport 380 that Lotus billed as the fastest Exige ever. And while the Exige Sport 380 is already impressive by tipping the scales at 2,447 pounds, the Race 380 is, as expected, even lighter at just 2,200 lbs dry. Shoppers can also opt for a titanium exhaust to shed 22 lbs off the scale.
Performance still comes from a 3.5-liter supercharged V6 engine with 380 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque, just like the road-going version. The Exige Race 380’s powerplant however is paired to an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission rather than a traditional manual gearbox or six-speed auto.

According to Lotus, the Exige Race 380 goes zero-to-60 in 3.2 seconds, making it 0.3 seconds faster than the road version. To demonstrate just how track-ready it is, Lotus says the Exige Race 380 lapped its Hethel track in 1:23.5, making it 1.5 seconds faster than the Exige Cup R.
A few changes have been made to the aerodynamics, including new vents on the front and rear bumper that Lotus says helps diminish the pressure around the wheels. There’s also a rear-mounted grille that boosts air circulation through the engine bay, while a new front splitter reduces pressure beneath the car. Other upgrades to the Exige Race 380 include 17-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels paired to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, AP Racing brakes with forged four-piston calipers, a diffuser and a larger rear wing to optimize air flow in the rear.
