McLaren’s Next Supercar Will Have a 4.0L Twin-Turbo V8

A few details about McLaren’s next supercar have been revealed ahead of its official debut.

The next car in McLaren’s Super Series lineup, widely believed to be named the 720S, will be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Although no output figures have been released, McLaren has confirmed that the upcoming supercar will finish the quarter mile in 10.3 seconds, while acceleration to 124 mph (200 km/h) takes just 7.8 seconds. It wouldn’t be crazy to see the 720S output upwards of 700 horsepower.

“Power, torque and throttle response are all significantly enhanced compared to the first-generation Super Series, yet with fuel efficiency and emissions also notably improved,” said McLaren Super Series Vehicle Line Director Haydn Baker in a press release.

The twin-scroll turbochargers have also been improved to spool up faster for reduced turbo lag. McLaren has also engineered a new exhaust system “tuned to provide a soundtrack to match the extreme performance of the engine.” An optional sports exhaust will also be offered, and to highlight the engine, the engine bay will light up when the car is unlocked.

The 720S will also have an advanced adaptive chassis with a variable drift mode.

McLaren will debut its second-generation Super Series supercar at the Geneva Motor Show in March. AutoGuide.com will be reporting live from the show and will bring you more details about this new McLaren when it debuts.
