Mercedes Pickup Truck Looks Production Ready in Latest Spy Photos

1

The Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup truck looks like it will be ready to debut this year.

Spy photographers have caught the new pickup testing in the cold and although it’s heavily camouflaged, it appears to be a near-production prototype. It seems quick, but it actually makes sense, considering the Mercedes X-Class shares its platform with the existing Nissan Navara, making development a lot easier and quicker for the German automaker. Some of the body on the X-Class will even be shared with the Navara.

What it won’t share with the Navara are its powerplants as Mercedes will use its existing range of engines. Expect to see four- and six-cylinder mills under the hood, with a 3.0-liter diesel V6 topping the range, as well as the company’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

For now, Mercedes has no plans on bringing the X-Class pickup to North America, although things could change depending on how it’s received in other markets once it goes on sale.
