Mysterious Ferrari Patent Isn’t so Mysterious After All
Patent images were published earlier this week that suggested Ferrari is working on a one-off hypercar.
While that still may be true, it appears the design has already been used for a concept car that has been showcased at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. Motor1 says it’s not the first time the car has been on display in the United Arab Emirates, but it has been revised over time with a new headlight design that resembles what’s seen in the patent. A more recent version of the display car doesn’t even have headlights at all.

It’s still unclear whether a one-off LaFerrari project will be the result of the patent filing, or if Ferrari is simply protecting existing intellectual property. With the company actually changing the display car at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, it does suggest plans of putting it into production, even if it’s extremely limited.
Since the company is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, we do expect it will have a few surprises up its sleeves. Ferrari’s Special Projects division has created some great custom models in recent months, including the SP275 RW Competizione and J50. One based off the LaFerrari doesn’t seem so crazy.
