Recent Honda Patent Filing Hints at Possible New Sports Car
The Honda Project 2&4 Concept could become real.
Originally debuting at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Honda Project 2&4 Concept mixed a motorcycle with a KTM X-Bow for a really impressive sports car. Essentially a lightweight chassis powered by a 999-cc V4 engine, the Project 2&4 Concept featured 215 horsepower and 87 pound-feet of torque with the capability of revv’ing to 14,000 rpm. And it also weighed just 893 pounds, making us wonder just how fun it would be to drive.

We may not have to wonder for much longer, as recent patent filings made by Honda uncovered by Autoblog suggest it could be moving forward with producing the Project 2&4 Concept. The Japanese automaker’s patent filing is for an automobile using a cast-aluminum backbone chassis, with the versatility to accommodate various setups. For example, it can have different seating arrangements for left- or right-hand drive or even just a single occupant.
In addition, it’s not locked down by powertrain, as the patent says the car doesn’t necessarily have to be powered by a gasoline engine. Instead, an electric motor could be used and it’s likely the fuel tank area could be replaced with a battery pack.
Automakers, however, often patent technology that never gets used. But here’s to hoping this one does become reality.
