Audi Lets Blindfolded People Feel Up the New A8L

Audi has been hitting us with a hoard of teasers for the new A8 and has dropped more information on the full-size luxury sedan today. Since this new A8 is supposed to be as luxurious as the Orient Express, the quality of the materials on offer is important. So Audi invited some German bloggers to don a blindfold and feel what the lap of luxury is like.

With high-quality leather, real metal, and grained wood, the bloggers were treated to a sensory experience, without, it seems, having even been told what brand of car they would be testing.

Car Natives’ Tom Schwede said that he crouched in front of the car, “blindfolded in front of a car and feels the car body. Thanks to the four big rings that my hands find quickly, there is no doubt which car is in front of me.”

Inside, Schwede writes that the leather is “incomprehensibly soft,” adding that he can feel the grain of the wood (which hides even behind the center armrest) with his fingers. Then his shoulders are massaged from the back seat.

The experience was apparently all very suggestive, with Schwede saying he has “never had such a sensual encounter with a car.” His sensual sentiments are reflected in the somewhat awkward photo gallery above, which shows the bloggers get all handsy with Audi’s newest four-door. We thought we liked cars, but it looks as though these writers care about the automobile much more than we do.

Expect to read all about the materials and to finally see the all-new A8 in its entirety next Tuesday, when it premieres on July 11th in Barcelona.
