Every Lincoln to be Hybridized by 2022, Sources Say
Lincoln will offer a hybrid version of every one of its cars from 2022 onward, according to a new report.
Sources close to the matter told Automotive News that Lincoln’s rumored hybrid push is part of a Ford plan to introduce 18 new electric and hybrid vehicles over the next five years. The American company is one of many automakers to focus on electrified cars in such a way, with Volvo, Mazda and Jaguar Land Rover also saying they will offer hybrid versions of most or all of their cars by a certain time.
Last month, AN reported that Lincoln has a hybrid version of both the Navigator SUV and MKC crossover on the way. These will be the first hybrid Lincolns to arrive as part of the luxury brand’s electrified product offensive. As it rolls out new or redesigned models, hybrid versions of each vehicle will be introduced. For example, when the new Aviator crossover arrives in 2019, a plug-in will arrive alongside the standard gasoline version. The same will be true for the new MKZ, due in 2020, and the redesigned Continental and MKX – both set to arrive in 2022.

Lincon’s new-found interest in electrified cars likely relates to China’s new EV mandates. Going forward, EVs and hybrids will have to account for a certain percentage of an automaker’s sales in the country, which is currently the world’s largest automotive market.
