Jaguar Future Type Concept is a What a Jag Will Look Like in 2040
Jaguar has debuted its new concept vehicle, the Future Type, ahead of the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Just like every other concept car these days, the Future Type is fully autonomous and electric. Jaguar says the car is a “concept that imagines mobility in a world where Jaguar customers can summon a fully-charged Future Type on-demand.” The concept will communicate with other cars on the road using car-to-car technology, which will enable shorter distances between vehicles and make lane changing and moving in traffic safer and more efficient. Jag says its narrow wheelbase also makes it perfect for tight city roads and parking garages.

The centerpiece of the Future Type is its AI steering wheel. The wheel is taken with the customer into their home, where it becomes a “trusted companion” in the way of Sayer (sort of like Siri). When they want to summon a Future Type, they can just ask Sayer to call one up, or tell it to schedule one to arrive the next morning. The AI wheel will also carry out other tasks such as playing music and booking you a table at a restaurant, for example. Jag hasn’t forgotten about the joy of driving with the Future Type, either – Sayer will even suggest which parts of a route you might want to drive yourself.
“Future Type offers an insight into the potential for driving and car ownership in the future,” Jaguar design boss, Ian Callum, said. “It’s part of our vision for how a luxury car brand could continue to be desirable, in a more digital and autonomous age. Our Future Type Concept is an advanced research project looking at how we can ensure an on-demand Jaguar will appeal to customers in 2040 and beyond.”
We’ll see more of the Future Type when it makes its debut in the flesh at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show next week.
