This McLaren F1 has Never Even Been Registered
We imagine that many original buyers of the McLaren F1 recognized the eventual value and significance the car would have.
It’s easy to see how important a car may one day be when it’s the first road car built by a legendary racing team, has a central seating position and was at one point the fastest car in the world. We get the feeling that the original owner of this Dandelion Yellow McLaren F1 took all those points into consideration when they decided to leave the car in its original protective interior wrapping and store it away for 20 years instead of driving it.
The car, for sale by British dealer Tom Hartley JNR, shows just 148 miles 239 km) on its odometer. That mileage wasn’t put on by the owner – they’re just test and delivery miles. That means this car has never truly been driven by a customer on public roads, a fact backed up by the fact that it’s also never been registered. It comes complete with everything McLaren gave F1 buyers when the car was new including the leather-cased owner’s handbooks, tool kit, spare keys, a TAG Heuer watch, the trunk luggage (never used, of course), along with an F1 LM-style spare exhaust system and an F1 GTR-style spare steering wheel.

The dealer says the price is available on the request. For reference, a silver F1 with just under 10,000 miles odometer sold for $15 million USD at auction in August, so the dealer is probably expecting to receive at least that much for this never-been-registered yellow example. Unfortunately, it’s probably destined to remain a garage queen. Typically, the only customers willing to fork over a premium for a low mileage car are those who also plan on never driving it. Sad!
