Tesla Model 3 Production Off to a Slow Start
Only 220 Tesla Model 3 units were delivered in the last quarter.
Tesla has high hopes of delivering on its promise with the Model 3 sedan, fully expecting to be in “production hell” after it delivered the first units at an event in July. During the third quarter, however, the American automaker managed to produce 260 Model 3 sedans, delivering 220 of them to customers.
“Although the vast majority of manufacturing subsystems at both our California car plant and our Nevada Gigafactory are able to operate at high rate, a handful have taken longer to activate than expected,” Tesla said in a statement. “We understand what needs to be fixed and we are confident of addressing the manufacturing bottleneck issues in the near-term.”

In total, Tesla delivered 26,150 vehicles last quarter, which is a 4.5-percent increase compared to the same period last year. From that figure, 14,065 units were Model S, 11,865 were Model X, and 220 were Model 3.
The automaker still expects to deliver about 100,000 Model S and Model X vehicles this year, which would be a 31-percent increase compared to last year.
