The Mustang Bullitt is Returning for 2018

The first special edition to grace the Mustang’s 2018 refresh will be a reimagined Bullitt.

Made famous by the 1968 film Bullitt starring Steve McQueen, in which McQueen’s Dark Highland Green ’68 Mustang GT Fastback engages in a frantic chase scene through San Francisco with a menacing black ’68 Dodge Charger carrying a pair of hitmen.

The 10-minute chase scene is often called one of the best in movie history, and Ford has already celebrated Lt. Frank Bullitt’s Mustang on two prior occasions before unofficially teasing the car’s return in a video with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson earlier this year.

Confirmation of the car’s official existence comes courtesy of Mustang6g who have allegedly procured a digital copy of the 2018 Bullitt Mustang’s window sticker.

According to the document, Ford will paint the car Highland Green Metallic along with other heritage features like louvers and faux rear gas cap. It also looks like the 2018 Bullitt will be available with Ford’s new 10-speed transmission, which, when paired with the 5.0-liter V8, will be good for 16 mpg in town, 25 on the highway, and 19 in mixed driving.

Given Ford’s affection for 50th-anniversary Mustangs don’t be surprised if FoMoCo releases the 2018 car in less than two weeks, coinciding with the film’s theatrical release on October 17th, 1968.

Update: A Ford spokesperson has informed us in a tweet that the automaker “did not create this window sticker,” that is being referenced in this article.
