Porsche’s New App Protects Your Air Cooled 911 From Thieves

Porsche Classic has developed a new app-based vehicle tracking system for European owners of its classic models.

The Porsche Classic Vehicle Tracking System uses an autonomous sensor package integrated at concealed points on the vehicle. The sensors communicate with a security network covering the whole of Europe, sending alerts to a security base if the battery is disconnected or if the vehicle is stolen. The Porsche Classic app can also pinpoint the location of a vehicle equipped with the sensors and save traveled route data. If the owner is lending the vehicle out, say for a test drive, the app can be used to set a “geofence” that will raise an alarm if the vehicle is taken outside of the specified boundary. There’s also “workshop” and “transport” modes that will disable the vehicle alarm when needed.

The Porsche Classic Vehicle Tracking system is compatible with all classic Porsche vehicles, from the 356 to the Carrera GT. It will become available from Spring 2018 and will be available for purchase from Porsche Classic Partners and Porsche Centres across Europe. It’s not clear if Porsche intends to roll out a similar app-based tracking system in North America, but we’re sure American and Canadian owners of 928s, air-cooled 911s, Carrera GTs and the like would sure appreciate it.
