Aston Martin Recalls More Than 5,000 Vehicles in the US

Aston Martin has recalled 5,446 vehicles in the United States in two separate recall campaigns. The first recall affects Virage, Vanquish, DB9, DBS and Rapide models built between 2009 and 2016. These vehicles may have a faulty transmission parking prawl that may not engage. According to an NHTSA document, ” if the park pawl does not engage and the vehicle is stopped on a slope and exited without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly roll, increasing the risk of a crash.” A total of 3,493 vehicles are affected.

The second campaign is for DB9 and DBS vehicles with faulty battery cables that may pose a fire risk if they become damaged. A total of 1,953 vehicles are affected.

As Automotive News points out, this recall affects a large portion of the vehicles Aston Martin has sold in the U.S. in recent years. In 2016, the automaker sold just 3,600 cars globally. The boutique British manufacturer had a particularly successful 2017, moving 3,300 units through to September for a 65 percent sales increase year over year.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Aston Martin with instructions on how to proceed.
