Volkswagen Produced a Record Number of Vehicles in 2017

Volkswagen has announced it will produce six-million vehicles by year’s end.

That’s a record for the company, despite being at the center of attention the last few years due to its massive diesel scandal. Helping lead the way in production are the Volkswagen Jetta, Golf, Santana, Passat, and Polo models. Also helping contribute is growing demand for the Tiguan and recently launched products such as the new Polo, Arteon, and T-Roc. In other markets, the Chinese Santana is proving to be an especially popular model for the brand.

Worldwide, Volkswagen produces vehicles at over 50 plants in 14 different countries, with its global portfolio now consisting of over 60 models. Since series production began with the original Beetle rolling off the assembly line 72 years ago, the German automaker has produced over 150-million vehicles.

Volkswagen looks to build on that success, after launching more than 10 new models throughout the world in 2017. Over the next few years, it plans to renew its entire product range, while expanding on SUVs and e-mobility. By 2020, expect to see 19 SUV models from Volkswagen worldwide, ahead of its fully-electric I.D. family launching from 2020 onwards.

“More than six million vehicles produced in 12 months – there is one thing that this shows above all: our plants and employees are continually improving their production competence,” said Thomas Ulbrich, member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand responsible for Production and Logistics. “We have top teams in production which successfully master growing demand from customers.”
