2020 Mercedes GLS Resurfaces for Winter Testing in the Snow
The next-generation Mercedes GLS has been caught on camera by spy photographers once again.
Still wearing plenty of camouflage to conceal its styling changes, the new GLS rides on the German automaker’s MHA platform, which is set to bring improvements in several areas. For starters, the architecture will shed quite a bit of weight from the full-size SUV, along with increasing interior space for passengers, especially in the last row. In addition, the platform will allow Mercedes to use a variety of different powertrains on the GLS, including hybrid setups and the company’s new inline-six engines. There will of course, also be high-performance AMG variants.

Rumor has it Mercedes wants to make the new GLS even more luxurious with a Mercedes-Maybach version, similar to what’s offered on the S-Class. That gives Mercedes a true competitor to other ultra-luxurious SUVs on the market, like the Range Rover SVAutobiography LWB and the Bentley Bentayga. Look for the standard GLS models to compete with other Range Rover offerings and the upcoming BMW X7.
Based on the timing of the spy photos, it’s most likely the new Mercedes GLS will debut next year.
