Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept Signals Automaker’s Future Design Direction

Infiniti has shown its new Q Inspiration concept ahead of its official debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit later this month.

The Q Inspiration Concept is intended to signal the future design direction of Infiniti vehicles. The automaker says the exterior “features clear and concise lines and avoids classical saloon forms with its elongated silhouette.” It also says the design study is the “first manifestation of Infiniti’s new form language for an era of advanced powertrains and presents a design vision for vehicles in this segment.”

“We aim to take traditional saloon architecture to its next stage of evolution,” said Infiniti executive design director, Karim Habib. “Experimenting with new proportions in an established segment with the arrival of smarter, compact powertrains, the Q Inspiration features a shorter hood and elongated body, with all the benefits to interior wellbeing, comfort and space that this layout entails.”

To our eye, the Q Inspiration appears rather similar to the Porsche Mission E with its stubby overhangs, elongated passenger compartment area and single rear light bar. The lack of rear exhaust outlets also leads us to believe it could be electric, but we should find out for sure following its debut in Detroit on January 15th.

Stay tuned for more information and photos as they become available.
