Former Lotus CEO is Also Making a Tesla Model S Wagon
It’s starting to feel like Tesla should just offer its own wagon variant of the Model S.
Recently, the world’s first Tesla Model S wagon was introduced, created by QWest and looking more like a hearse than a stylish shooting brake. Dutch coachbuilder RemetzCar is also working on a Model S shooting brake, and now former Lotus CEO Dany Bahar is throwing his hat in the ring. As CEO of Italy’s Ares Design, Bahar has been driving a Tesla Model S everyday and while he appreciates the performance and technology, he felt it could use more cargo space and the quality of the interior wasn’t up to the same quality as rivals like BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

So he’s taking matters into his own hands, with Ares Design creating its own version of a Model S shooting brake, starting with a 2017 model. It’s currently stripping down the car and is planning to rebuild it with carbon fiber and aluminum pedals, and hopefully in a more stylish way than QWest’s version. The interior will also be overhauled with Nappa leather for a more luxurious feel, and the factory wheels will be replaced with Ares Design’s own 21-inch wheels.
The company plans on selling the Model S shooting brake in early summer, with pricing around 200,000 euros ($249,000 USD) to 250,000 euros ($311,575 USD).
