The Honda Civic Type R Makes for a Mean Looking Race Car
The Honda Civic Type R is going racing this year in the British Touring Car Championship.
Honda and race team Halfords Yuasa Racing debuted the new Civic Type R BTCC racecar today, which will contest the full 2018 BTCC calendar. The team built two of the FK8 Type R-based race cars over the winter, and will unveil their 2018 racing livery on March 22nd at their factory. BTCC cars are built to series specifications which allow for 350+ hp 2.0-liter turbocharged engines, making the latest Civic Type R a good fit for BTCC competition.
“This next generation Honda Civic Type R is fantastic and the guys have pulled out all the stops to get us to this point,” said driver Matt Neal. “I can’t wait to jump in and get out on track this week. If the car goes as fast as it looks then we’ll be in great shape this season!”

“It’s really exciting to see the new car in the flesh, in full racing trim and it’s really something special,” said Neal’s teammate, Dan Cammish. “Sitting in the cockpit for the first time will be a really proud moment for me.”
The new Honda Civic Type R will enjoy its first on-track outing during a pre-season test on March 27th. The 2018 BTCC season will kick off at Brands Hatch on April 7th.
