Oh Look, Rolls-Royce is Making More Special Edition Models
The Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Collection will feature 35 model year 2018 Rolls-Royce Ghosts, created in homage to the original Silver Ghost from 1907.
In 1904, Charles Rolls, Claude Johnson, and Sir Henry Royce teamed up with the goal of taking on a challenge that was unprecedented at its time. Three years later, the Silver Ghost achieved a non-stop long distance endurance record of 14,371 miles. To celebrate that feat of engineering excellence, Rolls-Royce has announced the Silver Ghost Collection, featuring 35 special Ghosts built at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, West Sussex.
Up front there will be an unmistakable solid sterling silver Spirit of Ecstasy, with a specially created hallmark of “AX201,” the registration plate of the original Silver Ghost. That mark will be found on the base of the Spirit of Ecstasy, done by the British Assay office, an honor reserved for few. At the base of the Spirit of Ecstasy will be a black-gold-plated collar, while the exterior body is covered in Cassiopeia Silver, a complex silver paint that incorporates both warm and cool tones.

There will also be a hand-painted coachline applied to each of the 35 units, taking eight hours to apply by one of Rolls-Royce’s master coachline painters. The front grille will have black-painted veins, resembling the black grille seen on the original Silver Ghost. Inside the luxurious cabin will be Forest Green leather, providing a nod to the original’s interior color scheme.
Along with the introduction of the Silver Ghost Collection, the standard 2018 Rolls-Royce Ghost gets a few updates. There’s a bolder and more sculptured front end, the British automaker says, with the grille frame pushed further forward. There are also two completely new 21-inch wheel designs, while the interior benefits from additional sound dampening materials for a quieter cabin. The infotainment system has also been updated, which responds to natural speech rather than predetermined commands.
“The extraordinary accomplishments of our marque’s founding fathers are honoured by the creation of this elegant “Silver Ghost Collection,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “The Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective masterfully weave the rich narrative of the original ‘Silver Ghost’ into just 35 motor cars, creating a contemporary homage to the original motor car. Today, our craftspeople and master artisans continue this legacy of excellence, creating unique motor cars that define luxury.”
