5 of Our Favorite Cars at the Porsche Museum
The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, is car nirvana for a true fan of Porsche’s classic and modern vehicles.
Open to the public since the end of January 2009, this museum stretches over 60,280 square feet and houses more than 80 Porsches ranging from early classics rarely seen on public roads to modern Porsches that are destined to be future classics. The Museum is closed on Mondays but open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
One amazing part of the museum is an interactive sound presentation called “Porsche in the Mix.” Visitors are able to play back engine sounds from a selection of seven vehicles through a touchscreen menu. Additional sounds such as doors closing and opening can also be added to the mix. This is an inventive way to connect with the vehicles without actually driving them.
There were really too many amazing Porsches in the museum to pick a favorite, but here are five that really caught our eye:

Porsche 356 America Roadster

You can guess by its name that this Porsche was created for just the North American market. This spartan roadster was a superstar in the 1950s with an all-aluminum body and slot-on side windows. We think it represents what it means to be a classic Porsche.
Porsche 911 S 2.7 Coupe

The cream-colored paint job on the very popular 1975 911S is definitely a highlight. It’s the little details on this Porsche that make it so charming, however. Whether it is the tail-light panel with the giant Porsche logo, the mini wind turbine-like wheel design, or chrome headlamp surrounds, there is at least one unique thing about it from every angle that catches your eye. Not even the federally regulated bumpers with protruding extensions can ruin the car’s timeless style.
Porsche 911 GT1

The 911 GT1 came with a twin-turbocharged 3.2-liter flat-six engine producing 544 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, all of which was available in the limited-run street-legal version.
Porsche Schlepper

What on Earth is a diesel tractor doing in a museum filled with sports cars and race cars? With a fire red paint job that is very hard to miss, it’s awesome to know Porsche once had a voice in the agricultural world.
Porsche 904 Carrera GTS

Looking like it belongs in a Speed Racer movie, this car paved the way for the racing Porsches that followed. Despite having a fiberglass body and looking very aerodynamic from an outside glance, the car’s weight was not as light as intended. Still, we love that it is a pure racing Porsche and who doesn’t love that?
