The Next USPS Truck Will Look Kind of Hilarious

If all the supercars debuting at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show aren’t interesting to you, maybe this is.

Spy photographers have caught the next-generation USPS mail delivery trucks testing on public roadways, giving us a sneak preview of what will be roaming U.S. streets in the coming years. The first is Karsan’s proposal for the USPS mail truck, which is a plug-in hybrid. The Turkish truckmaker is testing a tall vehicle with a sliding cargo door at the rear, and another on the side, while it also appears to feature a 360-degree camera.

The other prototype comes from Oshkosh Corporation and is based on the Ford Transit. It utilizes a high-roof version of Ford’s full-sized cargo van and is said to also use a 360-degree camera system. We can see a power-sliding door for the driver. Unlike the Karsan prototype however, the Ford Transit-based truck should use Ford’s internal combustion engine instead of an electrified powertrain.

USPS officials have said the next-generation vehicles will be better equipped to haul large packages and it is expected to pick a new truck this year. Hopefully these new trucks also help employees not lose packages on a daily basis, but perhaps that’s too optimistic.
