Nissan GT-R Engine to Power American Supercar
Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) has decided to use the twin-turbo V6 engine from the Nissan GT-R for its upcoming SCG004S.
The American automaker originally announced the SCG004S would use a 5.0-liter V8, but according to Autocar, a switch has been made because the GT-R’s engine is “lighter” and “practically bulletproof,” according to company founder Jim Glickenhaus. It will be offered in different power outputs, with the entry-level model getting around 690 horsepower. It’s currently unclear how much power the high-performance version will offer.
Paired to the engine as standard will be a six-speed manual transmission, but a paddle-shift automatic will be available as an option.

Glickenhaus also confirmed that the GT-R’s V6 will be used in the race variant of the SCG004S, which will compete at next year’s Nurburgring 24 Hours race. Joining the race car will be a road version that will drive to the track, get a race engine, compete, and then drive home.
SCG is using the more affordable model to scale up production and the company recently received permission to produce its cars in the U.S. Glickenhaus expects to produce around 250 units of the SCG004S per year from 2020.
Prototypes should begin testing in the coming months, with production and deliveries happening before the end of the year. SCG says it has sold out its full allocation of this year’s cars with a starting price around $400,000.
