Mercedes-Benz Tests the GLS in an Unlikely Place

Spy photographers have caught the new Mercedes-Benz GLS testing yet again, but this time it’s really being put to the test.

The last time spy photographers caught the GLS, it was undergoing cold weather testing on public roadways while dealing with inches of snow. Now that the snow has melted, the large SUV is making its rounds on the Nurburgring, so the German automaker can be confident the GLS drives as well as it should. It’s unlikely most GLS owners will put their three-row SUVs through the grueling conditions found at The Green Hell on a daily basis, but it’s nice to know it’s fully capable.

Riding on the new MHA platform, the next-generation GLS will be noticeably lighter, while interior space will improve, especially for third-row passengers. Set to rival various Range Rover models and the upcoming BMW X7, the GLS is expected to take advantage of hybrid powertrains along with Mercedes-Benz’s new inline-six engines. There will of course be high-performance AMG models, like the GLS63 spy photographers caught on camera earlier this year.

Look for the new Mercedes-Benz GLS to debut sometime next year.
