Your Best Look Yet at the 2020 Ram 2500 HD

6

The new light-duty Ram 1500 debuted in January of this year, but Fiat Chrysler is still busy at work developing the work-ready Heavy Duty model.

A prototype for the 2020 Ram 2500 HD was recently spotted testing by AutoGuide’s sharp-eyed photographers, providing us with our best look yet at the new pickup.

Like the light-duty version, the new Ram 2500 HD will toss out the crosshair grille from the Dodge days in favor of the new Ram fascia. The interior will borrow heavily from the Ram 1500, sharing a near-identical design with the same available upholstery, trim and technology options. That will hopefully include the massive portrait-oriented 12-inch touchscreen on higher-end models as well.

As for the engines, expect the 5.7-liter V8 and 6.4-liter V8s to make a return, along with the 6.7-liter turbodiesel. The six-speed transmission may be replaced by a unit with more gears to provide better fuel economy, but Ford and GM are powering forward with six-speed units, so FCA may as well.

Another big change for the next-generation Ram HD is where it will be built. Production is slated to move from FCA’s plant in Saltillo, Mexico to Warren, Michigan. The Ram 1500 is built in Sterling Heights, Michigan – just a short 15-minute drive from the Warren plant.

Expect the 2020 Ram 2500 HD to debut sometime next year.
