Report: Audi R8 RWS to Survive Coming Facelift

There’s very little good news to be had about the R8 these days. Between the evidence of its demise, rumors of its transformation into an EV super-hyper-dupercar, and Audi’s overall disinterest in the project, we’ll take any good V10 news we can get.

And this latest piece is actually pretty good. The love that Audi has gotten for its RWS rear-wheel-drive R8 has reportedly convinced it that the project is worth continuing past the refresh later this year.

This is good news because the lighter, rawer, decidedly non-quattro R8 was the brainchild of the Bugatti’s current CEO. So his departure could easily have made the current RWS both the first and the last.

But marketing manager Linda Kurz told Autocar (which is normally not the most reliable source, but has gone to the trouble of quoting someone here) that the RWS was “a great success” and that a followup is “something that we are looking into” after its facelift.

And that’s the first bit of good news for enthusiasts in 452 days, according to the “There Has Been No Good News in ___ Days” sign that our old boss forced us to put up.
