2015 Ford F-150 Torque May Rise to 460 LB-FT

The 2015 Ford F-150 might be getting a power bump when it arrives later this year, and the new Lincoln Navigator is offering us a clue as to how big it will be.

Yesterday, Lincoln announced pricing and official output for the 2015 Navigator, which is powered by the same twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 also found in the F-150.

In the Navigator, the EcoBoost engine is rated at 380 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, a full 15 hp and 40 lb-ft of torque more than that same engine currently makes in the F-150. When asked about the increased rating, a Lincoln spokesman said that software changes are the main component responsible for the power boost in the engine.

When the 2015 F-150 arrives, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost will take the title of top dog engine, replacing a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8. It makes sense that the 380 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque rating would also be put to use in the truck, considering the EcoBoost will match the Chevrolet Silverado’s top-tier 6.2-liter V8 with 460 lb-ft of torque while also dwarfing the 434 lb-ft of torque made by Ford’s previous range-topping 6.2-liter V8.

Ford is also going to offer a new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 for the 2015 model year. The company hasn’t released official power figures for that engine yet, but it could spur its larger 3.5-liter sibling to make more power to avoid seeming redundant.

Ford truck spokesman Mike Levine would not confirm whether or not the new F-150 will come with the same power increase as the Navigator, but it’s difficult to imagine that Ford would upgrade the engine in its luxury SUV and not its bread-and-butter pickup trucks.
