2016 Mercedes-AMG GT Curb Weight Confirmed… Sort Of
Key details about the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT sports car that were omitted from the manufacturer’s announcement yesterday are starting to trickle out.
Specifically the company didn’t announce a curb weight weight or measurements for the car that serves as an indirect replacement to the SLS AMG GT. Pricing was also left out of the material issued to media reporting on the U.S. launch, but spokesman Christian Bokich confirmed that the European spec GT S model will have a curb weight of 1,570 kg or 3,461 lbs. and that the GT will weigh 1,540 kg or 3,395 lbs, but that a U.S. curb weight hasn’t been determined yet. By contrast, the SLS AMG GT weighs 3,570 lbs.

Despite that, the European weight still serves as a rough indicator of how the car, which is also six inches shorter than the now-gone SLS, will tip scales in North America. Safety standards will almost certainly push the curb weight higher for this market, although probably not by much more than 100 lbs.
Mercedes plans to offer both normal and “S” variants of the car, but the initial roll out will only include its more powerful version when it begins next spring. In Europe, pricing for the car is supposed to start at 100,000 Euros, which is roughly equal to $129,000 USD. That price might be close to what Mercedes charges in this market, but the price will probably come with a lower price in this market.
