BMW 1 Series Sedan Spied as CLA, A3 Fighter
BMW is preparing to shake up the entry-level luxury segment and they’re going to do it with front-wheel drive.
The BMW 1 Series sedan will be the German automaker’s new entry-level model geared towards competing with the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and the Audi A3 in the sub-$30,000 luxury segment. The prototype was spied testing in Germany and will ride on the company’s new front-wheel drive UKL platform.

The BMW 1 Series will actually be late to the party, as both the CLA and A3 are already taking market share and the 1 Series isn’t expected to arrive until 2016 as a 2017 model year. Similar to the CLA and A3, the 1 Series will also be offered with xDrive all-wheel drive as an option with turbocharged three- and four-cylinder engines powering the entry-level sedan.
