Ford Offers Surveillance Mode Tech to Competitors
Ford is letting one of its latest technologies out of the bag, making it available to all of its competitors in an effort to make policing safer.
Surveillance mode, which was introduced on the 2014 Ford Police Interceptor, uses a rearview camera and a radar to detect when a person is approaching a vehicle from behind. If someone is creeping up behind an officer’s car, the vehicle will automatically sound a chime, roll up the driver’s side window, lock all the doors and flash exterior lighting.
“We want to assist with and improve the security of all police officers – whether they are using a Ford Police Interceptor or a competitive vehicle,” said Randy Freiburger, Ford police and ambulance special vehicle engineering supervisor.
The system is being offered by Ford and through InterMotive Inc., the car brand’s partner in creating surveillance mode.
