New Cadillac Chief Wants More Crossovers

Cadillac’s future will include more crossovers under recently-appointed Cadillac boss Johan de Nysschen.

Currently, the company only offers two crossover / utility vehicles: the high-priced Escalade and the SRX, it’ top volume selling nameplate. Earlier in the year, Cadillac reportedly shelved plans for a Lambda-based Cadillac product that would be mechanically similar to the Buick Enclave. During an interview with Automobile, de Nysschen said he sees room both above and below the SRX for more Cadillac crossovers.

In an interview earlier this year with AutoGuide.com Cadillac executive chief engineer Dave Leone confirmed that the company is still evaluating the possibility of expanding the Escalade name to more than one model. That could indicate that a Lambda-based model with relatively low development costs is still on the table.

Leone also said at the time that both the rear-wheel drive Alpha platform and the Omega platform that will underpin the upcoming Mercedes S-Class fighter are capable of being adapted for utility vehicle applications.

But before the company can look at building more new products, de Nysschen wants to pump up sales on the brand’s current lineup, mostly through an increased presence in China.
