General Motors Posts Best Q3 Since 1980

A massive list of recalls didn’t prevent General Motors from posting its best Q3 results since 1980.

Despite recalling a record number of vehicles this year and constantly being in the spotlight with defects and even deaths linked to the recalls, the American automaker had its best third quarter in sales since 1980, selling nearly 2.45 million vehicles worldwide. It marks a two-percent increase compared with Q3 2013 and through the first nine months of this year, GM has sold 7,371,743 vehicles, also up two percent.

The successful sales quarter was attributed to growth in both the U.S. and China, GM’s two largest markets. Third quarter sales in the U.S. were up eight percent while China saw a 14 percent growth. The company expects to sell over three million vehicles in China for the second straight year and will likely best last year’s record of 3.16 million units.
