2016 Chevrolet Equinox Gets a Botox Lift

Chevrolet revealed its refreshed Equinox crossover today at the Chicago Auto Show.

The updated model comes with a bigger touchscreen, revised styling and new wheels along with a standard rear-view camera on all models. Chevrolet introduced the Equinox in its current form for the 2010 model year and sales haven’t stopped climbing since. In 2014, the company reports selling a record 214,214 units, which is a new high for the nameplate but also a number that represents slowing sales growth in a segment that expanded by 17.4 percent in 2014.

Consequently, the company is re-thinking the packages it offers while eliminating two trim levels: the 1 LT and 2LT, leaving the L, LS, LT and LTZ and re-naming the base model under the “L” trim. All models will come with projector beam headlights while LT and LTZ models get new chrome grille accents and daytime running lights. LTZ models also get new fog lamps.

Chevrolet says it is also upgrading the interior with better cloth upholstery and a standard seven-inch touchscreen radio, but the changes for the 2016 model year are all purely superficial. The same 2.4-liter base four-cylinder and 3.6-liter V6 will continue to power the Equinox.

Like most of the rest of GM’s lineup, the Equinox is also available with 4G LTE connectivity on all trim levels, enabling it to serve as a mobile WiFi hotspot for anyone in the car.

Chevrolet didn’t announce pricing for the refreshed model yet, but the current base trim – the LS model – starts at $25,395 including delivery. Dealer delivery of the 2016 model year is scheduled to begin in the spring.
