Jaguar Compact Crossover Under Consideration

Jaguar is looking to take advantage of the growing crossover and SUV market.

A Jaguar compact crossover is reportedly being considering that would slot under the new XE sedan in the brand’s lineup, making it an entry-level offering that would compete with the BMW X1. According to Autocar, Jaguar has long been linked with a smaller model, a competitor to the BMW 1 Series, Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz A-Class, but now it is making more sense for Jaguar to pursue a crossover rather than a traditional coupe or sedan model.

Jaguar’s brand director, Steven de Ploey, confirmed that the company is looking to add more crossovers to its lineup: “A family is not confirmed but we are investigating it,” he said. “We have the architecture and capability with Land Rover to go left or right, up or down, but we’d only do it on two key attributes. The car has to be dynamically the most capable and it has to meet our design standards.”

Earlier this year, Jaguar announced its F-PACE crossover, a vehicle that is being referred as “the ultimate practical sports car” by Jaguar Land Rover global sales director, Andy Goss. The F-PACE is based on the C-X17 concept and will be based on the automaker’s new aluminum architecture, which also underpins the XE sedan.
